This week, we should describe as a good week for offender health in the West Midlands, we do have reason to be cheerful, sometimes we forget this.

  1. This week, the Birmingham health based Place of Safety opened.  We now have an area in a hospital in Birmingham where people who are held under Section 135 or 136 of the Mental Health Act can now be assessed in a hospital. Previously it was a police station.  This week Birmingham, by March the whole region.
  2. West Midlands Ambulance Service started their month long pilot transferring all patients held under Sections 135/136 by Ambulance to hospital. This pilot is just across Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry and the Black Country. If all goes to plan, next month sees it roll-out to the whole region.
  3. Finally, we have produced DVDs of our Place of Safety Training and we will shortly be ready to distribute them.  Keep an eye on our news item, or make sure you come along to our workshop at the NACRO conference in Lougbourough on September 22-23rd.

I finish this week knowing we have made some significant improvements. Have a good weekend.
