Some days, I come back to a common theme, do we want every employee to be a super hero?  By this I mean someone going beyond the call of duty, beyond expectation every day, or......

Do we just want the day job done well?

I work in service improvement, so most days I am working with people on changing and improving services, we often look to the new ideas and the latest initiative, all great and has a lot of merit...but what is it worth if you can't do the day job well?

For me the big would be to work with a team, who know they are doing the day job well, they know they are providing healthcare to offenders that has a minimum of equivalence to the community, because....they know their waiting lists and they are managed within community waiting lists, they know they care well for patients because they have the evidence, it is signed and dated and current.  They know their weaknesses because they have audited them.

Every now and then, we do need to take time, to ask and to check we are dong the day job well. When was the last time you knew that your day job in patient care was a job done well?
