This week we published 2 documents, Working in West Midlands' Prisons and Supporting Women with Mental Health Issues.
The first document, provided information from a staff survey and data analysis, the second case studies showing how 3rd sector organisations support women to improve their mental health and well-being.
The challenge for us all, is to plan how to turn these reports into local actions. It will be local actions that will be the only way to ensure changes happen over the coming months and years....
Here are our tips on how to sustain change at a local level.
- Identify what changes you make in your own work area? and then implement them!
- We identify offenders as a vulnerable group, they are not the only group. What work do you do that supports vulnerable groups? Identify if offenders are included if not, push them forward.
- Many of the changes are simple, take the West Midlands' Prisons report, 48% of staff stated they never received supervision. Implementing a clincial supervision programme could support staff and lead to improved outcomes for prison patients.
Over the coming months, the numbers and types of service improvement, regional and national organisations will decrease. Making long term sustainable change can only happen at the local level and it can only happen if everybody makes a change. My changes today.. writing this blog and supporting prison GPs to begin their pilot of a new GP revalidation process.
